HIP PAIN
What is hip pain?
Hip pain can arise from muscles, ligaments, tendons, joints, or surrounding soft tissues in and around the hip. It may cause stiffness, discomfort, or limited movement, affecting both everyday activities and sports performance. At MTE Rehab & Performance, located in Redruth, we assess and manage hip pain, helping patients from Camborne, Pool, Hayle, Truro, Falmouth, Helston, and Penzance recover safely.
Types of hip pain
Muscle strains around the hip – small tears in glutes, hip flexors, or adductors.
Tendon or ligament irritation – inflammation from overuse or injury, such as glute or hip flexor tendinopathy.
Hip joint pain – from early arthritis, labral tears, or impingement.
Bursitis – inflammation of the fluid-filled sacs that cushion the hip.
Overuse/repetitive strain – gradual pain from repeated movements in sports or daily life.
Common causes of hip pain
Glutes and hip muscles – strains can occur in running, squatting, or lifting heavy weights in sports. In daily life, pain may arise from lifting shopping bags, stepping off curbs awkwardly, or prolonged sitting with poor posture.
Hip flexors – tightness or strain can happen in kicking, sprinting, or sports with sudden acceleration. Everyday causes include sitting for long periods, bending repeatedly, or climbing stairs quickly.
Adductors / groin – pain often comes from sudden side-to-side movements in sports. Daily life examples include stepping sideways to avoid obstacles, twisting while moving furniture, or getting out of bed awkwardly.
Labral or joint issues – can be aggravated in sports involving pivoting or twisting. General population examples include prolonged standing, sudden turning, or awkward slips and twists.
Bursitis – pain from inflammation often worsened by pressure or repetitive movements, such as running, walking, or leaning on one side while sitting.
